Stemmen uit het bos was recorded live during Naturalis Nights: Suriname on 21 March at Naturalis. The series is the result of a collaboration between OSCAM and Naturalis as part of the public programme accompanying the exhibition Het bos van Suriname.

In each episode, host Vinny Tailor speaks with two guests from the Surinamese diaspora. Drawing on their own practices, lived experiences, and everyday realities, they explore themes such as culture, identity, spirituality, and community. Their stories take on added meaning within the context of the Surinamese forest, where nature, biodiversity, and cultural heritage are deeply interconnected.

Orlando Ceder & Jeffrey Spalburg

This episode explores culture as a carrier of identity and how Surinamese creativity finds expression through music and performance. Orlando Ceder, a member of Black Harmony, sings in Sranan Tongo within a tradition that places language and cultural heritage at its core. Jeffrey Spalburg is a theatre maker and storyteller who uses humor and satire to examine social issues such as identity and colonial history.

Ike Melchizedek & Zergei Samson

This episode focuses on art, community, and self-expression, exploring how artists create space for new forms of culture. Zergei Samson is a curator at OSCAM and a DJ (ZAMSON), whose work connects art, music, and public space. Ike Melchizedek is a multidisciplinary artist, DJ, and co-founder of The Gang Is Beautiful, a collective centred on fashion, art, and community.

Marian Markelo & Sherlien Sanches

This episode explores spirituality and different forms of knowledge within the Surinamese context. Sherlien Sanches is committed to preserving Indigenous knowledge and traditions through her work with, among others, the Inheems Kennis Centrum Internationaal. Marian Markelo (Nana Efua) is a leading representative of Winti in the Netherlands and works to increase the visibility and recognition of this spiritual tradition.

Stemmen uit het bos is live opgenomen tijdens Naturalis Nights: Suriname op 21 maart in Naturalis en komt voort uit een samenwerking tussen OSCAM en Naturalis, in het kader van het programma rond de tentoonstelling Het bos van Suriname. 

In elke aflevering gaat host Vinny Tailor in gesprek met twee gasten uit de Surinaamse diaspora. Vanuit hun eigen praktijk, geleefde ervaring en dagelijkse realiteit verkennen zij thema’s als cultuur, identiteit, spiritualiteit en gemeenschap. In deze aflevering gaat het gesprek over spiritualiteit en verschillende vormen van kennis binnen de Surinaamse context. Sherlien Sanches zet zich in voor inheemse kennis en tradities bij onder andere het Inheems Kennis Centrum Internationaal. Marian Markelo (Nana Efua) is een belangrijke vertegenwoordiger van Winti in Nederland en werkt aan de zichtbaarheid van deze spirituele traditie.
