OSCAM x De Korf present Meryem Slimani

Meryem Slimani prefers to photograph her muse – her 67-year-old mother Najate Leklye. In bright colors and always as the beautiful center of the composition: a mother seen through the eyes of her daughter and the intimacy of their relationship.

Meryem gets her inspiration from her own closet, her mother’s closet or her husband’s closet. Her mother’s closet is a treasure chest full of clothing from the 1980s and 1990s, including traditional Moroccan garments. Combined with streetwear that defines Dutch urban culture, they form the basis for Meryem’s styling. Her photos depict life in a big city, life between different cultures, the balance between generational differences and the love between a mother and her daughter.
