Masters in Procrastination and Masturbation

Join OSCAM on friday July 3, 2026, for Masters in Procrastination and Masturbation, the first solo exhibition by Surinamese artist Zergei Samson, known as Zed. Samson.

This exhibition traces a personal journey toward accepting sexuality and the emotional weight that comes with it. Through deeply personal works, Samson reflects on experiences of insecurity, depression, isolation, and self-doubt, while also confronting the gradual process of self-acceptance and growth.

By inviting the viewer into his mind, Samson translates emotions and lived experiences onto the canvas in a direct and often literal way. Internal struggles are transformed into visual language, allowing feelings that are difficult to express verbally to exist physically within the space.

At its core, the exhibition is about perspective and transformation. Looking back at where he once was, acknowledging where he is now, and imagining what the future might hold. Samson’s work captures the tension between vulnerability and resilience, reminding viewers that identity is not fixed, but continuously shaped through experience, reflection, and acceptance.

About Zed. Samson

As a self-taught painter, working under the name Zed. Samson, Zergei Samson creates surrealist paintings in which the human body plays a central role. For him, painting is both a form of self-exploration and a therapeutic process, bringing together personal thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Through distortion, repetition, and unexpected combinations of bodily forms, he creates images that balance between fantasy and reality. His work explores themes of identity, desire, vulnerability, and transformation. He gives visual form to thoughts and feelings that are often difficult to express in words.

Alongside his artistic practice, Samson is active at OSCAM as the driving force behind YOMU (Young OSCAM Meet Up Space). With this exhibition, OSCAM creates space not only for emerging artistic voices, but also for the creative talents within its own team. Masters in Procrastination and Masturbation therefore marks a moment in which Samson’s role as both artist and maker takes centre stage.

Kom op vrijdag 3 juli 2026 naar OSCAM voor Masters in Procrastination and Masturbation, de eerste solotentoonstelling van de Surinaamse kunstenaar Zergei Samson, bekend als Zed. Samson.

Deze tentoonstelling volgt een persoonlijke reis naar het accepteren van seksualiteit en de emotionele lading die daarmee gepaard gaat. In een reeks diep persoonlijke werken reflecteert Samson op ervaringen van onzekerheid, depressie, eenzaamheid en zelftwijfel, maar ook op het geleidelijke proces van zelfacceptatie en persoonlijke groei.

Door de bezoeker een inkijk te geven in zijn gedachtenwereld vertaalt Samson emoties en geleefde ervaringen op een directe en vaak letterlijke manier naar het doek. Innerlijke worstelingen worden omgezet in beeldtaal, waardoor gevoelens die moeilijk onder woorden te brengen zijn een tastbare aanwezigheid krijgen binnen de tentoonstellingsruimte.

In essentie gaat deze tentoonstelling over perspectief en transformatie. Terugkijken op wie hij ooit was, erkennen waar hij nu staat en verbeelden wat de toekomst mogelijk brengt. Samson’s werk vangt de spanning tussen kwetsbaarheid en veerkracht en herinnert ons eraan dat identiteit niet vaststaat, maar voortdurend wordt gevormd door ervaring, reflectie en acceptatie.

Over Zed. Samson

Als autodidactisch schilder creëert Zergei Samson (aka Zed. Samson) surrealistische werken waarin het menselijk lichaam een centrale rol speelt. Voor hem is schilderen zowel een vorm van zelfonderzoek als een therapeutisch proces, waarbij persoonlijke gedachten, emoties en ervaringen samenkomen. Door te spelen met vervorming, herhaling en onverwachte combinaties van lichaamsvormen ontstaan beelden die balanceren tussen fantasie en werkelijkheid. Zijn werk verkent thema’s als identiteit, verlangen, kwetsbaarheid en transformatie. Zo geeft hij vorm aan gedachten en gevoelens die vaak moeilijk te verwoorden zijn.
