The richness and deeper meaning of Bas Kosters work is shown by multiple tapestries and drawings in the exhibition ‘Tranen zijn de glitters van het leven’. The audience will be taken into the world of one of the leading fashion designers of the Netherlands. Koster celebrates the value of textiles by using everyday materials for his art. The tapestries are made out of multi-layered textiles on which freehand-cutted human and animal figures are artistically attached. Kosters’ love for colours and materials are clearly seen in his work. Fabrics as cotton, wool and silk are carefully selected and collected. His works are a resistance against our consumer culture in which shopping is a crucial ritual for shaping and transforming our identities.
